Come meet our adorable Dachshund puppies in beautiful Monterey, California — the perfect addition to your family!

Our puppies stay with us until they are at least 12 weeks old, giving them time to receive comprehensive training in socialization, desensitization, potty training, and basic obedience. This foundation helps them grow into confident, well-adjusted companions ready to thrive in their new homes.

Each puppy goes home with an adoption contract and health guarantee, plus a box full of goodies and a detailed training guide to help you continue their progress at home. Our prices generally range from $2,000–$3,000, and we do our best to be flexible within reason to help wonderful families find the right match.

Little Puppies the Long Way has Puppies Available for Adoption!

At Little Puppies the Long Way, we are committed to ensuring our puppies go to loving, responsible homes. We currently have puppies available for adoption, as well as a waitlist for upcoming litters.

Adopting an Available Puppy

For families interested in puppies that are currently available, the process is as follows:

  1. Application & Video Call: All interested parties must complete an application form for their chosen puppy. After reviewing your application, we will contact you for a follow-up video interview. This interview allows us to assess your home environment and gives you the opportunity to meet the puppies and ask any additional questions.

  2. Reserve Your Puppy: If selected, we require a $500 deposit and a signed contract to officially reserve your puppy. Once the deposit is received, your puppy will be marked as "reserved." The remaining balance is due either in advance or at the time of pickup. We accept debit and credit card payments, and payment plans may be offered at our discretion. Taxes are included in the listed price—no additional fees beyond the advertised amount.

  3. Regular Updates: Once your puppy is reserved, you will receive regular updates on their progress until the designated pickup date. We encourage all of our adoptive families to stay in touch, ask for advice, and prepare for their new puppy’s arrival.

Joining the Waitlist

For families interested in future litters, we offer the option to join our waitlist. Here’s how it works:

  1. Application & Video Call: Just like with adopting an available puppy, all interested parties must complete an application form and have a video interview to ensure a good fit for the puppy and your home.

  2. Waitlist Process: Families on the waitlist will be contacted after the puppies begin their training at 8 weeks old. At this point, we will assess the puppies’ personalities and match them to the families on the waitlist, ensuring a good fit.

  3. Reserve Your Puppy: If you are contacted from the waitlist, you will have 24 hours to set up a call with your potential puppy and place a $500 deposit to officially reserve your puppy. Once the deposit is received, your puppy will be marked as "reserved."

  4. Regular Updates: Families on the waitlist will also receive regular updates on the puppies’ training progress until their new puppy is ready for pickup.

Delivery & Travel Options

  • Local Delivery: The first hour of travel (round trip) is free.

  • Additional Travel: $30 per hour for travel beyond the first hour (not exceeding 6 hours).

  • Flying: $15 per hour for flight time, plus the cost of the flight and any necessary hotel stays. Flights must be arranged from Monterey or San Jose at least 3 weeks in advance.

Chloe strikes a lovely balance between people and other dogs. She enjoys engaging with her humans just as much as she loves romping with her companions, making her an easy, adaptable presence in a variety of settings. Her social flexibility allows her to flow comfortably between play, connection, and independence.

When Chloe isn’t off on an adventure, she can often be found napping in cozy corners around the house or yard. She has a natural ability to settle and recharge, especially after she’s had a chance to explore and burn off some energy.

Training with Chloe is enthusiastic and fun. She is eager to learn, though she occasionally gets a case of ants in her pants and needs a moment to get her wiggles out before she can fully focus. Once she’s settled, she engages well and brings a bright, willing attitude to each session.

Dognality: Marcy has a calm, self-possessed presence and a naturally independent spirit. While she isn’t the most people-oriented puppy, she is deeply comfortable in her own skin and moves through the world with quiet confidence. She prefers to choose when and how she connects, and when her trust is earned, she forms a steady, loyal bond without needing to be constantly in your space.

Play for Marcy is social and intentional. She excels at interacting with other dogs and has an impressive ability to communicate clearly and get what she wants — a true little diplomat among her peers. Rather than chaotic play, she favors balanced, cooperative interactions and often helps smooth out group dynamics.

Marcy is wonderfully easygoing and self-regulating. She frequently puts herself to bed when she’s ready for a nap, showing a strong sense of emotional and physical awareness. This natural ability to settle makes her a particularly low-drama, peaceful presence in any home.

In training, Marcy is what we affectionately call a “lazy learner.” She engages well, understands what’s being asked, and performs thoughtfully — but once her turn is over, she’s perfectly happy to curl up on her place mat and take a nap while she waits. When it comes to play, Sophie enjoys both playing with other dogs and entertaining herself with toys. She often chooses to stay near her people instead of charging off on big play adventures with her sisters, but when joining in is the best option, she does so confidently and with enthusiasm. Dognality: Kali has a spunky, magnetic personality that immediately stands out. She’s fun to be around and brings a bright, playful energy into every space she enters. Confident and expressive, Kali moves through the world with joy and curiosity, making her impossible not to notice.

She is beautifully balanced between people and other dogs, enjoying connection in all its forms. Kali loves heading out on yard adventures with her sisters, turning even simple moments into shared experiences. Backstory: Dior came to us recently after her owner asked for help rehoming her. Because Winston, one of our litters, was returning to us at the same time, we took in both dogs together to help ensure a smooth transition. Dior has been with us just a few days, and we’re taking the time to thoughtfully evaluate her needs so we can find the home that will suit her best and set her up for long-term success.

Dognality: Dior is a sweet, loving Frenchie who adores her people and forms strong bonds with those she trusts. She’s thoughtful and observant, often pausing and considering before she responds — it’s easy to see she’s really thinking when you talk to her. Generally quiet (aside from her constant snoring), Dior is smart, eager to please, and responsive to guidance, making her a joy to interact with for anyone who takes the time to connect with her.

Dior has some struggles communicating and interpreting signals with other dogs. Because she doesn’t always understand canine cues, she can become stressed or overwhelmed in multi-dog homes, especially if the other dog is assertive or reactive. For this reason, she does best in a home where she is the only dog or with a very calm, disengaging dog who doesn’t enforce boundaries — so she can feel confident and secure without needing to manage interactions herself.

With people, Dior is an absolute love bug. She is affectionate, emotionally connected, and deeply people-oriented, thriving when she has a trusted human presence to help her feel safe and grounded. She bonds quickly, seeks closeness, and offers a calm, loving companionship that makes her easy to adore.

Ideal Home:
Dior will thrive in a home where she has consistent human guidance and clear structure. She does well with people of all ages and would likely be fine in a home with children who are respectful and supervised, as she is gentle, people-loving, and responsive to her humans. Her primary need is not child management, but thoughtful dog management, ensuring she feels supported and secure in her environment.

Backstory: Allen is one of our dogs and is currently living in a loving single-dog household with an 8-year-old child. His family reached out for help rehoming him due to upcoming job changes and increased travel, not because of any major behavioral concerns. Allen is safe, well cared for, and deeply loved in his current home.

We will be welcoming Allen back to us in February, where he will spend approximately one month in our care for observation, structure, and focused work. Once he is with us, we’ll provide an updated assessment based on firsthand experience. The information below reflects what we currently know from his family and prior history.

Dognality: Allen is an affectionate, people-oriented dachshund who thrives on connection. He enjoys being close to his humans and finds joy in attention, play, and shared routines. Playful and expressive, Allen wants to be part of daily life and does best when included rather than left on the sidelines.

With unfamiliar people, Allen can be vocal and somewhat territorial at first, often alerting when someone new enters the home. Once he has time to warm up, he settles well and interacts appropriately. During his stay with us, we will be working on calm greetings and confidence around new people.

Allen has done well with other dogs in social settings, including dog parks, and appears socially capable. While currently an only dog, he may enjoy a compatible canine companion with thoughtful introductions.

Training & Development Focus: Allen is largely potty trained. His family has noted a few recent indoor accidents that appear to be related to emotional stressors rather than a lack of understanding. During his time with us, we will be reinforcing consistency, management, and routine to address this.

He is crate trained and comfortable being crated when unsupervised. Allen has expressed discomfort with harnesses and is still developing his leash skills. This will be an active focus during his return stay, including finding appropriate equipment and building positive associations with walking and handling.

Ideal Home: Allen will thrive in a home that values structure, consistency, and engagement. He is well suited for individuals or families who enjoy an affectionate, involved dog and are comfortable continuing the foundation we put in place. He has lived successfully with a child and may do well in homes with respectful kids.
